Client Profile: Spring Brook Resort
My stay at Springbrook Resort - Skookumchuck. B.C. Rockies, by Trant Lee-Amies.

Who: Marnie (my host)
When: Monday 11th November, 2002.
Where: Skookumchuck is situated on Hwy 93/95 south of Radium Hot Springs and north of Kimberley in the B.C. Rockies. "Skookum" meaning big. "Chuck" meaning water.

The town used to be called Springbrook but when the railway built a siding in the 1900s, naming it Skookumchuck siding, the name stuck.

Springbrook Resort is situated on the corner. It is a hybrid! Camping sites, RV sites, hostel rooms, motel rooms and construction of cabins is currently underway. When all is finished, there will be a total of twelve including a new cabin for Marnie, Barney and daughter Nicola. Marnie is a friendly lady - a bubbly character. Her husband Barney who loves to fish and hunt, was born in Eastern Manitoba in the 1950s.
Camping Home to ponderosa pines, picnic tables, fire pits, 2 hostel cabins, a kitchen cabin, the main motel building which houses 6 units, laundry room, men's and women's bathroom and shower facilities. All are situated on a large plot of land on an arm of the Kootenay River.

The summer office is on the gravel road as you enter. This has a gift store, snacks and a big collection of used books. An avid collector of older books, Marnie enjoys sharing her hobby with other book enthusiasts of all stripes. Their winter office is their home. Oh yes, can't forget about the rabbits. A pair started some time ago, and has now grown to approximately thirty rabbits and are visible everywhere.

Altogether I enjoyed my stay here, surrounded by incredible surroundings and warm hospitality.
